Appalachian Foundry (Thetford Foundry) uses sand molding to produce castings.

Types of molding offered green sand and no bake.

Green Sand Molding Equipment :

• CT3: semi-automatic equipment for medium to high-volume production.
• Squeezer: equipment used to manufacture small parts of low volume.

No Bake Molding Equipment :

• Kloster: automated production line for precision parts of low or high volume.
• Floor: for production of large, heavy parts.

Our Melting Facilities

• Two induction furnaces of 1,000 lbs. each provide the capacity to melt our broad range of metals.

Heat Treatments

• Heat treatment is often necessary to obtain metallurgical and mechanical properties.

High performance electric furnace for thermal treatments

• Our heat treatment furnace allows us to submit our castings to a variety of heat treatments that further improve their metallurgical structure and homogeneity.

  The heat treatment cycles available are the following:
  homogenizing, normalizing, full annealing, stress relieving and tempering.

  Uniformity of the heat cycle is ensured by state-of-the-art computer process control. The furnace is designed to eventually function under controlled atmospheric conditions.

Insulation is provided by a combination of high quality ceramic fibre and wool to ensure excellent insulation and heating time. Coiled heating elements and a roof ventilator ensure good heat distribution. An air-tight brick-lined wagon ensures efficient loading and unloading of castings.
